Tips to maintain a great lawn
Having a lawn is a great way to treat yourself because for one, it is beautiful to look at and for another, it can help you relax. If you’re someone who doesn’t have a lawn, you need to close your eyes and imagine a spread of cool, green grass on a hot, sunny day. It gives you cool, fresh air and a tranquil atmosphere you can get lost in. However, as tempting as it sounds you must have the time and patience to be willing to pamper you lawn. There are certain myths and tips to be kept in mind for instance, simply watering is not enough and there is something called too much watering. It is important to feed the lawn 3-4 times a year. This ensures stronger and deeper roots which mean less watering. Also, the taller the grass the better its capacity of retaining water hence, it is best to mow your lawn from the highest setting. Gardening is really important if you are looking to keep a good lawn.
Again, timing is very important especially when it comes to watering. Watering should be done in the morning or during the coolest part of the day so that more water is retained by the grass and less is evaporated. Also, watering grass when there is too much wind may be counter productive as winds can blow away the water. Pay attention to minor details such as your irrigation system as you can actually end up saving money and water. Check for broken, clogged or crooked nozzles and if possible, clean your driveway or sidewalk with a broom instead of a hose.
Keep in mind that a brown lawn doesn’t necessarily mean that the lawn is dead. Grass can turn like that when it is dormant during hot and dry spells. As long as you’ve fed it well and followed the water restrictions it should be back to normal in some time. Lastly, give your lawn some air so that the water can be absorbed better in the soil and by the roots. Follow these simple tips and you’re sure to have a great looking lawn for your benefit.
