To give you a better advice, DIY sofa designs are the best since you can choose a pattern or style which co-ordinates with your home interiors.
To design your own sofa can be a compact and simple idea. Here is a straightforward and easy plan to make your own seating furniture.
- The Framework: the most elementary part is the frame of the sofa. At first cut out plain sheets of plywood for the basal parts. Before doing it, first take down the length of the sofa you want to fit in your room. Cut out a desired length of ply for making the legs of the sofa.
Note that the height of the legs remains optimum. Cut down horizontal bars of ply for the basic structure of the body frame. These wooden bars are meant for supporting the entire sofa.
Now if you want to attach arms and a back rest for your sofa you can do it by cutting out wooden frames accordingly.
- The Stuffing: stuff your sofa with high quality dense foam, so that it renders comfort to the maximum level. Cut foams in 4-6 inches thickness for the inside of the sofa. Stuff the armrests with 2-3 inches thick foams. For more comfort you can add a base material such as a cloth, a burlap or muslin.
- Cover: you can use fabric to cover your sofa. Lay the sheets in the first place and then start sewing the pieces together with the help of a sewing machine. The covering should be stitched in such a way so that it fits the sofa frame exactly.
For extra comfort you can place cushions on your sofa. There are several furniture DIY ideas.
