Assuming you are willing to do the labor yourself and decide to use materials you can get locally for free (or very inexpensively), your only real limitation is your imagination. While you can certainly get a lot of ideas by looking at all the landscaping and gardening magazines and websites that are available, sometimes it helps to get ideas from real life examples. Find a nice neighborhood in your city (other than your own) and spending an afternoon waking around looking at the landscaping elements they have employed and you are bound to come across something you both like and can do yourself.
